I got this regulator one ebay from what was labeled from a 76 xs650
When I check it against my old regulator its completely different.
So.. no problem... I'll just look at the wiring diagram from a 76 then match up the colour wires accordingly.
No luck finding a 76 wiring diagram on here:
www.650motorcycles.com...atics.html
Ive even checked all years from 1975+ and they all show only 3 wires going into the regulator (Green - connects to 3 white wires, Black wire & Brown wire)
This regulator shows: Red, black & yellow into the harness/coupling + another red wire & blue wire seperate from the coupling.
Can anyone match these wires to the original black, green & brown wires on the harness?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

yes.. Thanks..
I checked the wiring diagram from the 78 xs650E/SE as you listed on the link.
Even the regulator on that wiring diagram shows a Green, Black and Brown wire, not the Red, black and yellow wires that the above regulator shows..

it isn't a regulator. it's a safety relay, as jayel pointed out.

I have a regulator off my 76. It was working when I rebuilt the bike and put in the rect./regulator system recommended by Pamco. Check out this thread

Let me know if you want it, cover my shipping charges and it is yours.

stops the power to the starter motor after the engine starts, so starter will dis-engage
