installed & runs OK. Before i disconnected the TCI i marked on alt rotor a spot which on full advance was inside the 'U' timing mark using a timing light.
With the Pamco the same spot only goes 1/2 way between the TDC mark & the 'U'. so not getting full advance???
new advance weight springs & if push weights they click back into place.
Just checking the ATU base place is screwed up tight with the cogged nut?
?
thanks in advance for assistance

markee,
1. The max advance for points (ATU) is 41.5 BTDC @ 3,300 RPM
2. The max advance for the TCI is 40 BTDC @ 3,000 RPM.
So, the TCI gets to max advance a little sooner than the ATU does.
The first thing to try is to be sure you are at 3,300 RPM for the max advance check.
The TCI is an early version of electronic advance and is subject to change over time (30 years) so it's possible that your mark was advanced more than spec.
Any amount of advance that is used at idle is not available for full advance. So, try holding your finger on the PAMCO rotor while checking the idle timing. If the timing retards, then that means that the springs are loose and some of the available advance is being used at idle.
Here is a picture of the full advance mark on a '78/E. Note where the line is on the case, just to the left of the center notch on the bottom of the case.
Here is a picture of a '81/H with the full advance mark just to the left of the center notch on the bottom of the case. The timing mark on the rotor is also shown.
I would suggest that you make a mark for full advance as shown and check for max advance again.
