I couldnt get that final luster without a buffing wheel. I sanded, very fine, on aluminum only. I bought , I think a 4" wheel put it in a drill, used it that way and put the drill in a vice to use as stationary. I scratched the grey paint on my crankcase w a wire brush, dont want to do that. I also scratched crome on my left exhaust w scotch pad. The only thing you can get rough with and bring it back is the aluminum tapet covers and case covers.

I have sanded out some gouges with 150 grit but have worked my way to 400 wet dry and 600 coming next.

I dont have access to a buffing wheel, But I also do as above, 400 then 600, and to really make it shine, finish up with Mothers Mag and Aluminum polish, comes in a 5 oz can. great stuff. You will cuss it looks so good.
