In my case it was a bad thumb switch.
vibrations at idle would sometimes kill the bike.
The starter is on the same circuit (on my bike anyway) so if you have intermittent no start issues too I'd look there.

Hows the battery and charge? It has hapened to me befor that I'd be cruisng and come to a light and it dies. Or getting off parkway, stop for sign or light and it dies. Seemed like going from steday 3500+ rpms to stop needs a few seconds to adjust I feahter the throtle a bit if I think it is going to hapen.

My bike does the exact same thing.... It will idle great most of the time... but then out of the blue it will kind of hiccup and then die...
Nothing like kick starting at green stop lights... hehe.
Im starting to wonder if i have some electrical bug somewhere... would voltage regulator or any of that stuff cause this? Thing is i just cut out most of the harness... took out all guage cluster wiring... everything i didnt need to have the bike legally on the road... which was ALOT.
Any thoughts? Would an old voltage regulator cause a sudden death?
I have no charging problems though....

yeah something tells me it's the circuit.it must be somewhere,in the charging system,i guess the circuit breaks down for a moment.weak,or no spark.
who is good with electricity?!
maybe we should go to "electricity".

The thing is I have a brand new pamco ignition... new plugs... wires.... coil....
I still have a few questionable wire connectors that i may rewire...
But I wouldnt mind knowing whether a voltage regulator or rectifier may go back or something.... making it die at idle...
Once its on the road moving it runs tops....

has to be in the ignition system, you don't even need a charging system other than to keep the ignition supplied with battery power, look at the main switch, kill switch, coil wiring

I don't know what wiring setup you guys have but a crapped out fusebox sure could mess you up. My bike only has one fuse but I've read an alwful lot about problems with the old fuseboxes.

These bikes are incredibly lean at idle. I raised my needle all the way up and reset the mixture screws and idle. Made a world of difference in the idle.

My bike may be lean I cant get the plugs to show collor. cv34s 2up on piolet and I just raised the needle to the next hight, might try biger mains again then if still no collor rais the needle. Getting off the topic a bit but with the biger main I lost considerable milage, and still not much collor on the plugs and everything tells me the bike is rich even now with stock mains except fot the plugs. No poping on decel nice deep tone.
jayel makes sence you dont need the chatging system to run, a beat battery or ignition could be the problem
