I think most of us have had a problem finding netural at a stop from time to time, especially when the bike is warm.

y bike has a new clutch cable, regularly lubed, new friction and steel plates, new needle bearing and thrust washer in inner clutch hub, regularly cleaned and lubed actuator worm assembly and constantly checking adjustment at actuator set screw and handlebar lever and still had not at times been able to find netural.

Something I have done as per the Clymers manual is noticing they recomend .008" to .012" free play at the clutch lever.
I have taken and measured this gap with a feeler gauge at .012" and put it in the pinch point of the clutch handle and tighted my adjuster till there is a fair bit of drag to pull it down.
Now netural seems easy to find and the clutch is at a nice release point and all seems good even at higher operating temps

Just thought I would pass this along,I never thought about taking that free play measurement so literal as to check it with a feeler gauge

Cool, Skip, surely it isn't that easy...............Be funny if it was!

So did you adjust at the engine to specs also, I think they say to back off 1/4 of a turn don't they?

Good to see your using the age old method; when all else fails, read the instructions!

Yes Yammaman it was that easy.I always seen the spec, but always eyeballed it,then one day I decided to put a feeler gauge in there.
.012" is not very much free play.(they recomend.008" to .012")
I always like a lot of free play in my clutch (even in my cars to keep the release point close to the floor),so at .012" I am like"there's no way this is gonna work"- wrong. It worked.
I have my "at engine" adjustment set at 1/4 turn out.
I am sure I am not the only person who ever thought to fire a feeler gauge in there......am I?
