Clutch Will Not Disengage

I rebuilt my engine and replaced the clutch pads and discs and everything and when I put it back together, I put it in gear and it will roll freely. When I take off the left side cover it is normal. You know what I did wrong? Thanks.

Maybe you have the worm gear screw in the (push lever assembly) a bit snug...... or the lever adjustment too tight........ back track and make sure the push lever is not too tight......snug it down till it hits bottom (with the cable on the bar loosened) then back it off just a bit.....like 1/4 turn.....or a bit less when you get good at it.........

Did you do the inner hub to pressure plate alinement?

No, my manual didn't say anything about that, would not doing it cause my problems?

Forgot all that dot alignment stuff...... good show RG........ had so many clutches off I just figured they knew that....... so much for ole timers advice....... the rest I mentioned is important too though.......

Hey John, just a guess on my part.

I think the title should be "Clutch will not engage".

The pressure plate squeezes the friction plates and the steel disks together. To do this, the teeth in the pressure plate must line up exactly with the grooves in the clutch centre. Thats why they have the indexing hole. Six ways to go together, but only one position works.

If you don't have the marks. Just find the tooth that lines up straight across the sring boss and center hole of the hub. On the plate you will need the notch between the teeth to line up across the spring boss to the center of the plate. There will only be one tooth and notch that line up.
