Im thinking about buying a sparx permanent magnet alternator but i read they didnt timing marks on them. I just wrote to the sparx folk and they assured me there is a TDC mark on there alternators. is that all you need to set the timing properly? ive never really paid attention to my stator/rotor.. but ive seen other marks on my mates xs400..

bigfozz,

You will also need a mark 15 degrees BTDC.

1. Just make a paper template with a 15 degree angle
2. lay the rotor face down on the paper,
3. mark the 15 degrees to the right (CCW) of the TDC mark and scribe it.

bigfozz,

Your ignition timing is 15 deg. BTDC @ 1200 RPM.

From what I understand the timing marks have already been scribed if you buy them from 650central.

I am waiting on mine from them.

Well..time will tell. I just recieved mine from wwww.650central.com. I am half way through the installation and will post results when I get it running. I am just very tired of fixing the charging system. Mikes is out of stocks on rotors, and i don't want to buy someone elses 30 year old problem. Everything costs money, there is no free lunch.

I did the banshee PMA conversion cost me a total of $180 and took 2 hours to make and install,no more electrical problems at all, blinkers work great u can start bike with a dead battery its been 2000 miles since install its great riding without having to worry about another rotor stator frying and stranding you somewhere.I would highly recommend to someone who cant afford the sparx unit.Sorry didnt mean to highjack your post
