I ordered the K&N like pods from Mikes and installed them only to get a hesitation and stall at 5000 rpm. I researched the problem on a past post dealing with cheap pods, and found that the problem was attributed to a rubber land inside the filter covering the air jets around the opening. I could use two plans of attack to alleviate the anomaly; Buy real K&N filters at $90+ for 2 or modify the $12 a piece ones. I chose the latter. The fix would be to trim away some of the rubber so it doesn’t block the air jets. The problem with this pesky obstruction is it actually holds the grommet to the metal case. So I would have to bond the rubber to the case and then trim the area in front of the air jets.

In order to effectively bond the rubber to the metal first remove the grommet from the metal case and with a Dremel tool rough up only the area the grommet will contact. Clean both the grommet and the contact area.
Apply Super Glue to the contact area and assemble the grommet and case together.
Apply pressure to the assembly for about 20 seconds.
With a Xacto knife remove 270 degrees of material from the 8 o’clock to the 4 o’clock position.
Clean the filter with compressed air and re-install.
