Just bought a 81 xs650 from father in law. Love the bike. It's in need of some caring. Nothing bad just been neglected for a while. I need help with the charging system which looks like it has been a prob for several people. Contemplating replacing current charging system or converting to a permanent magnet system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go back up one level on that same board you can read about the permanent magnet mod.
If you don't have a manual : www.knucklebusterinc.c.../XS650.pdf
It helps us to help you if you put your model and year in your signature so when you ask a question we know what you have. AND you should put up some pictures for us to ooh and aah over.
