I'm needing to do a little work on my carbs (BS38CV). MikesXS is and has been for some time out of stock for the Carb Holder Clamp. The ones I have on the bike are holding, but with a vacuum leak. Thats part of what I need to fix. I have new Carb Holders, Just in need of the clamps. Mine are kinda tweeked. As I said they are holding, but I'm afraid if I take them off they won't go back on. Does anybody know if I can use regular hose clamps. Worm gear style. Any large enough diameter is gonna be 1/2 inch wide. I'm not sure if that 1/2inch wide will clear the manifold bolts. If it does not, and the old ones won't go back on, then I'm F$@%ED!

Do your holders have the metal cage around them? If so a regular clamp won't fit. Too wide.
Your stock clamp should come off without harm. If they are stretched a bit, you might be able to cut a thin strip of steel to put between the clamp and boot.

Yes, I DO still have the metal cage around them. The clamps are a bit twisted from over tightning. Also re-threaded with larger bolts as they were stripped. Yeah, there toast.

You might find some from a generous person on here with a good set or shop ebay. You might try www.babbittsonline.com They are often the best price on parts and may have a new set of clamps.

Go to a volkswagen or audi dealer for the thin radiator hose clamp's. They are thin enough to fit properly, and have a 7 mm head on them as well.

Maybe, Babbitts online list a different part number. Your first link didn't work for me.

OK, I got the clamps I ordered. They seem just a bit smaller. They fit on if I put them directly on the rubber manifold boot, but don't seem to fit over the tin metal cage that goes over the rubber manifold boots. Do you think it would be ok without them? (the tin metal cage) ...and what (if any) liquid gasket sealer do you reccommend? Yes, I did get new gaskets from MikesXS.

If your talking about the manifold to the head, I would suggest a very thin coat of permatex grey on the manifold side only.If you put it on both side's of the gasket, you will have a real hard time getting it off the head.
No, those metal ring's are for support for the weight of the carb's.
Otherwise the manifold's can split, or even break off.

I do have the new holders from MikesXS (the barbed ones as well). You used worm gear clamps on them, with or without the tin metal cage?

The carb holders i have are not tin covered. My original ones did (78xs650) and i removed them to use on the new ones but i didnt need them. The clamp works fine. I had to lightly shave down one side (closest to you) to fit the clamp between the holder and the securing bolt. Worked great for me.
