I have been sorta wanting-dreaming of another bike.
1 650 is great and all, But I think 2 would be better.
I Can use what I've learned + parts will swap. You can ride one and work on the other bike. One Problem has been No money, another problem finding a great deal.
I have a Friend that is going though a Divorce. He happens to have an 82 XS650 heritage special. When he mentioned he was thinking about selling it last fall
I didn't think I could afford it. I told him he should keep it and I would help him get it Running again.
He told me he needed to move it several days ago. He is down sizing his stuff. Today I went and looked at it.
Its in what I would call nice condition with 11,000 miles.

He said it needs some work like a battery and clean the carbs, start button is missing and is not in running condition and has just been sitting and
the Tires will need replaced before much riding.

He said he has owned it for 6 years and rode it about 1000 miles since he owned it has not been ridden in 3 years but has been in the garage.
he will sell it to me for $450 cash and deliver it to my house.

This deal has fallen into my hands and now I just need to figure out how to tell the wife. I think I've held up pretty well 4 yrs with just 1 650 it is now
normal for me to ride every where during the spring, summer and fall.
I ride it every day I can and have put over 20,000 miles on it riding mostly to work and back.
I would be crazy not to buy it right? I'm not sick or disturbed Right? this is normal.

Pros:
Cheap Transportation
Gas is going up
Parts will swap from one bike to the other.
If I wear one bike out I have another.
I like the spoke wheels and all the black (instead of chrome like my 81 special) nice change.

Cons:
Another project to work on
more time and money

Anyway I have the money. I've pretty much made up my mind to bring it home.
I just wanna make sure I'm not sick but normal. Then the wife, do I just bring it home?
She doesn't go in the shed much. Maybe she wont notice it next to the 1968 Honda CL90 under the sheet. Another unfinished upstarted project.

Yup I'm sick that is post a long post.

Well, that deal you just can't pass up! Tell momma that she can go riding with you(maybe- maybe not), and the gas, insurance, taxes, ect. are all cheeper. You did not mention storage, so I think you should get her and start tinkering away.,,,Gordo

Get your new start button here.
www.freewebs.com/kibokojoe/

I bought two. The horn button is the same part and I bought the aluminum ones. I will only replace them once I'd say.

At the worst you could fix it up and flip it and make some money. I really really like the price too.

Sounds good to me too.....Can't beat the price and the parts interchangeability between 81 and 82 just as I've done with 78 and 79's.

However....I'm sad to say that the "650 sickness" aspect is not cured by getting the "second" one. Nor the 3rd or 4th. Do keep in mind that to keep two up and running you may want to consider a third as the true "parts donor. Nice out here in the "middle of nowhere" is'nt it?

Still hanging on to your speedo drive gear....will add the left hand switch assembly with horn button to the box. I think you've got a second bike on the way. Best, Blue/Rex

Pumps thanks for the link for the buttons.

Rex I'm still trying to figure out time to come see you. I really need to get the speedo fixed, a State bull shook his finger at me the other day. I have now slowed down as far as I can tell.

Plenty going on I will work it in one of these days.

Smokin' Deal!! why haven't you brought it home yet!!?

Never too many spare parts. Use all you can, build another, sell what you don't. You're gonna need that third bike

I tell my girlfriend that it's "an investment" and it'll keep me in the backyard instead of the pub.

Go for it.I rent a 2 car garage about 5 miles from the house because I only have a 1 car and no room to build. The OL knows I have 2 bikes because she's seen them in the back of the truck.I have 3 and a project side car and I'm waiting on another one that's at a local impound. If she asked me how many I have,I wouldn't lie,but what she don't know won't hurt her.Oh,I bought my first in May.Sick?Maybe.Obsessed?Definately.Good luck.

Don't buy. Give me your buddies address, I will help you out and removre the temptation from you.

If it were me it would be in my garage already. A bobbed out 650 fetches 2.3k plus on eBay just something to think about.

I like "tonight seemed good". I do the same thing, wait untill things seem calm and light to break some selfish news to her. Its funny how you just know when the time is right to throw it out there. Congrats on the positive response!

after 23 yrs I've done everything the wrong way at least 1 time. I'm more patient these days no need to ruffle any feathers most of the time and timing the inquiry makes a huge differences.
I had a difficult time getting the free non runner pictured home 5 yrs ago.
otorcycle!--- no way.
things have changed what a relief.
Its is happy day.

You can console her by telling her that, because you got it so cheap, you'll be able to fix it up and sell it and make a buck or two (which is true). But don't go so far as to say you're GONNA fix it up and sell it (you don't wanna lie to your honey).

As far as the normal/sick thing goes -- Console yourself by coming to terms with the fact that it's normal to be sick in this way. What's weird is that f*ckin' Honda 90. Better see a shrink about that one. Maybe he'll give you some pills. . . .

Aw, I'm pretty sure you don't need two bikes. Tell you what ... have your buddy deliver it, then PM me and I'll drive up from Texas the very next day, pick up the bike, take it off your hands for what you paid for it PLUS $50, and you'll be on the wife's good side!

Ain't I a great guy?

He delivered the bike to day here it is. Its in nice condition, but missing left lower side cover, Tool kit, and Lock. The tank is nice and shinny on the inside also. It needs many of the things I have done to my 81, fork seals, break hydraulics rebuild, Johns Needles, front Tire, battery and all the normal stuff. So it will be a while before its ride-able.
I will be able to have my current ride be my beater, and by swapping some parts around the 82 will be a very nice Ride.

(As many of you Know I"m Sure), But for the rest of you- -Think, some one you know May have one of these or Know where one is Hiding. Be Patient and snoop around, if your looking for another one it may show up when you least expect it, The cool thing is I had the money to get it. Last winter it was maybe selling and maybe $650.

Good luck to you all!

Nice!
Providence and patience will bring one many opportunities.
Now the quest for the ever elusive lower side cover.

For the price they go for on eBay you'd think that Mikesxs would put them into production.
How about it Mike?
