I recently purchase a xs650 chopper. I was excited because it was an affordable chopper. I stripped it to clean it up and repaint it. Decided to have GL choppers check out the frame, because something didn't feel right. Got a call today that the frame was a riding death trap waiting to fall apart at high speeds. What a loss of money.

At lease GL will be able to rehard tail the frame. Just griping. Sorry.

What was the problem, the welding? With it stripped bare already, shouldn't be real expensive to have someone check them and re-do them. It would probably be a lot cheaper to let a garage or welding shop do it rather than some specialty shop though. A good welding shop charges less than $50 hr around here.

the frame is NOT STRAIGHT! AND the welds on the underside of the frame were not even finsihed!!!! BAD BAD stuff. I would go ahead and punch the guy in the face that sold you that thing! UNREAL!

We will do it up right. NO welding shop or garage would be able to fix this thing I guarantee that!

I take every opportunity to talk about this on all of the forums I visit. I'm just glad SigEpRider, that you didn't buy it and hop on and ride only to have it come apart at speed.

I can't stress enough the importance of enlisting the help of qualified people when doing any type of frame modification.

There's a special kind of hell reserved for the ignorant wretch that sold you a death trap. Whether it was a hobbyist (a hobbyist and weld-on hardtail I'm assuming) or a supposed builder.

Taking your life in your own hands is one thing. I've modded some crazy, half-assed crap just to see if it would work, and still do on occasion, but I would never sell anything that I didn't know for FACT was as safe as it could be to another human being.

atters of life and death really shouldn't be decided by monetary considerations. They should always be decided with Rock-Paper-Scissors*. (You'll need to enlist the help of a friend or your local barber to complete the R-P-S procedure.) It is the only common sense solution to determining who to have complete welds that could, if improperly done, separate your literal ass from your proverbial tea kettle at 70 mph.

*Optional method involves Magic Eight-Ball and 3 lb hammer, results may vary.
