Can I ask that we stay on track with this thread? Pete started a worthwhile poke-about, and we have one variation on it now and a parts/price list for anyone who's interested. Just trying to keep the salient bits from getting buried.

Well, I'm with TeeCat on this one. One of the reasons that we all spend time with our XS650's is to get away from the politics and BS that surrounds us. There are more than enough opinions to go around, and non of it is going to solve a thing, so lets stay with the subject.

There are other forums for ranting and raving, and, interestingly, they are not that popular.

Right. I suppose that it might prove worthwhile in terms of lowering op temps over time, but it's an individual call. I guess for the cost of some billet mirrors, applying Pete's theory might be useful in terms of real-world wear and tear, especially if someone's bike sees a lot of use.
