I read somewhere head and valve/cam covers were machined together & have matching numbers so don't use a different one.
Have a spare head that i was going to port/polish but wondering if fit will be a problem as didn't get the matching cam cover
Any comments re this????

Occasionally you'll find differently stamped head & rocker covers that will fit together as good as matched pair .Iv a fair selection of 'odd' top ends here & I can pair up at two from these perfectly..There doesnt seem to be many that do fit together just right though..
I just sold a mis-matched pair to someone in this forum that I had on a running motor for a few years without problems

'61, how did you determine the 2 as a match?
I also have a few mis matched parts laying around, always accepted them as being fairly useless, maybe they're not!

The two just mated up perfectly with no overlaps etc. They bolted together nicely with a cam installed so I decided to take a chance and install on the bike, it ran without a problem , no bearing slackness or overpinching & no whining ... Im pretty sure Ive another (mis-matched) pair here that'd work ok too.. Or was it just luck?
Everything to_xs has seen the head/rocker Im describing..
