Hey peeps, i know its not XS related but i just need some info.

Ive just purchased a 78 T140V, virtually immaculate, the bike is a Beauty!

But ive since discoverd its a pretty bag of sh*t.

Quite a few teething problems, and some general wiring issues. Like charging itself without even running :-O, Deffies Physics!

Anyway i havent got a manual yet and im trying my best to figre stuff out myself on this one.

Right Hand switch gear, Big red lever in the middle, with a black button above and another black button below. None of these are connected to anything, i heard the red lever was for a choke. Im running MK1 Amals with no choke what so ever, doesnt even seem to be anyway to fit a choke to it.

Can anyone explain what these disconnected buttons do please, if anyone knows about these bikes.

Any clues is much appreciated.

Thanks

Leigh

The dipswitch is on the left tho mate. I think sum1 has bypassed it to a different switch on the left maybe? then just left the original ones in place?

Left side is the direction indicator and engine stop. Other is front brake switch, horn, headlight dip switch and headlight flasher. At least that is what I get from the wiring diagram for a T140 V two switch bike.

Are yours Lucas , Harris or Sparx copies ? New looms & switchgear are cheap as chips up there in the midlands Leigh , try TMS in Nottingham or Tri gear

You guys are making me nervous--my next project, waiting in the shed, is a 1978 T-140v. I guess my old T120 factory manual won't do much for me with this bike, huh?

Haynes, here I come! Very Happy

I do know one thing for sure, from a previous T-140 I owned: I'll never try to rebuild and assemble that 5-speed again! Talk about packing a gallon into a quart jar!

Beautiful bikes, though!

Leigh,

I just thought of something: if you check out www.Britbike.com you will find entire boards filled with VERY well informed guys about anything British-bike related.

I've been hanging around there since 2001 and learn new things all the time.

There are lots of UK guys there, so it may help with local information and/or bits, too.

(According to Classic Bike magazine, the T-140 is "the practical classic"----I hope they are right!)

Hope this helps,
