I know that this is a stupid question but I have a 79 special and can't figure out how to get the rear caliper off any tips and or just plain how to do it thanks

you have to remove the bolt that's at the front top (brake stay bar) and remove the axle check here bigger blow up pic so you can see how it all goes together

Loosen the bolt's to the pivot bracket, pry between the piston & disc to get a little room for the pad's to slip over the groove on the disc. You might have to open the bleader for that.Remove the bolt's to the pivot & lift off. If you take the hose off first, you'll do the same thing. Carefull, brake fluid eat's up paint really fast. Jayel's pic is excelent.

All I would like to do is to change the pads is removing the axle necessary?
