Does anyone else have drain plugs that drip small amounts of oil?

I'm using new copper gaskets from mikesxs. I tighten them with a torque wrench to 30 ft-lbs, and have used 35 ft-lbs, but they still weep some oil.

I think those copper gaskets are too hard to seal properly.

I even tried home-made cardboard gaskets, but they weep also.

Has anyone bought the OEM from Yamaha...........#256-15353-00?

did you check for nicks, scratches around plug holes. Put the copper in the oven and heat it up a little.

Thanks 5twins for pointing me in the right direction. I had those bakelite gaskets in my parts box, but didn't realize they were for the drain plugs. Boy, do I have egg on my face! They look like they will seal much better.

I have this issue a little bit now that my copper washers are compressing some. Can you get the bakelight ones separately?

Try Permatex Thread sealer #59214. It's a sealer, not a lock. Impervious to gas, oil and water.

Also works great on the screws that hold the pet cocks in the tank. Carb bowl drain plugs...whatever.
