I have new tires coming for my new project bike because the ones on it now are so dry-rotted that Im surpised they hold air, anyways you all know what you do with old tires before you take them off, I know what I do anyways Very Happy Plus I see that for some reason there seems to be a shortage of XS burnout videos on youtube, burnouts are always fun!

Im doing my part to help save the environment, if I make sure all my tires are used up right to the cords before I take them off, there is less non-biodegradable waste in our dumps! I do my research Wink

THe non welded pressed cranks don't like to be jarred to heavily......all it has to do is move a thousands or 2 and the crank will self destruct the bearings.....I wouldn't recommend it.......save that for the solid crank bikes..........

So these motors are at risk of throwing a bearing from a steady 1/4 throttle load at 4K-6Krpm? Perhaps I will choose a different bike to build if that is the case because that's about the same as my cruise down the freeway every morning...

Don't take what I said to extreme.......Never said that...........but I wouldn't jar it like I didn't give a darn if it knocks the crankshaft runout off........or you might be fixing something...........common since is all I meant...burnouts might not be common sense with these....one way to find out ..... Laughing

Ah ok, I see you mean just to be careful... I was gonna say, its not getting any more jarred or loaded or beat while doing this than a normal ride Smile Now if I were holding it wide open until it doesnt rev anymore the whole time... that would be different Very Happy

Wow, tough crowd up in here!! LMAO!!

yeah like doing tire burns Laughing seriously about the worst thing you can do to these ball bearing lower ends is lugging it down, it will pound the bearing races and make those nice round balls square and then they don't roll so well

There are a few things that I really don't care to know about.

You guys are starting to make me nervous. Lugging a sidecar around might not be the best thing for the old '77......but I never do burnouts with her. I save that for the BSA cafe bike. It's so light that I don't think it can hurt the engine.....(much).

One thing about having a long gravel driveway--I can play at burnouts and just spray gravel and not have to rub pavement. Very Happy

as long as you have the revs up barb you'll be fine, I'm talking about the engine doing that herky-jerky lugging low rpm/to high of gear thing

I know!! All the talk in this thread about how putting a load on this engine will blow the bearings out kind of makes one wonder how it could've been so popular in the racing world for so many years Laughing

Oh well, I guess I like to "live on the edge" Twisted Evil

And jayel, perhaps I will clarify, the bike was in 1st gear the whole time... basically no load at all with around 1/4 throttle to maintain the tire spin. I believe most people leave a stop sign more abruptly than that.

I was laughing at/with the full throttle running knocking out the lower end, these things will turn rpms a whole lot better than chugging around as far as damaging the engine

Abraxxas, Dude...do you get the feeling you're being chastised? Tough crowd is right. All your weight on the front, 1st gear, bald tire....seems to me it should be recommended activity for cleaning the plugs!

Abraxxas, That was an impressive show of bike control. When you said burnout I was picturing you sitting in one place holding the front brake and just smoking the rear tire. Tire spinning donuts are a whole differrent ball of wax!

Ummm (blushing) it is "true confession" time: one of the sidecar mounting brackets interferes with the tach drive, so I blocked it and have been running without a tach for about a year. I've been meaning to modify it (again) and since the engine is out, it's a good time..... Embarassed

I try not to lug the engine, and keep it under 70 mph in 5th. so it's not working too hard. I hope. (The gearing is stock)

My son bought magna with new avon venoms. 126 mile and picked up a nail. Put in some liquid sealer and went out on a back road. His first burnout. When he pulled in the garage his tire went flat. Am I a bad dad? I got to admit that Magna is a pretty nice bike for the money.
