Is it normal for new exhaust wrap to smoke when you first fire up the bike? Just put it on and started the bike and it smokes like crazy, stinks too.

I think it will subside. I believe there is some type of adhesive within the cloth that will cure in a short time. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...

Yes, its normal. Youre supposed to spray it with silcone spray in whatever color you want it. Mine is black with the black spray which helps it last. It really stinks for a week or so , less each time you run it. I gave it 4 coats but it doesnt smell any more. It really tightens down if you soak it in water first then wrap it & let it dry. I also used the stainless steel tie wraps on it. Burn the frayed ends with a match

It looks kinda cool in an old vintage sort of way, glad the smoke was normal.

This old dude uses it on his 95 Harley Fatboy with a 2-1 Supertrapp just where my shoe melts and it burns the crap out of my leg. The whole pipe isnt wrapped, its not for looks on mine

A good way to hide rust and apparently helps to contain the heat in the pipes for a better exhaust flow. So there is more than a cosmetic purpose for wrap.

It was first used by the early hot rodders. They wrapped the pipes to keep the exhaust temps up, this kept the exhaust velocity up. thus better performance.

I used black on mine(yes it smoked) it has since turned white (500 miles or so). It turns mostly at the bends in the pipes.

What is a name brand for colored silicone spray? I don't think I ever saw it. Is it just high temp paint?

DEi Hi Temp Silicone Coating spray can is what I use. Any place that sells the wrap usually has the spray. When the wrap starts to turn white, give it a few more coats of black or whatever color youre using
