I am considering adding a later model swing arm to my '73 TX to soften the ride. In '74 Yamaha lengthened the arm by 2 inches, but later they lengthened it again another two inches from what I have read. Since the frame spec drawings that I have seen do not include the swingarm dimensions can anyone tell me what year the change was made. I don't want to lengthen it too much or my tire won't clear the back of the rear fender.

Any input appreciated.

TXA from the center of the grease nipple to back of swing arm 530 mm or 53 centimeters, the 80SG is exactly the same............. Roughly 21 inches.......... Just freshly measured

Thanks Skull, I saw some on ebay but didn't want to buy one that was too long. That answers my question.

End of post (maybe).

Using the longer swingarm will also lower the rear of the bike a bit too. Maybe an inch or so.

Yessiree Leo, I considered that already, and since I've already lowered it with 11 1/2" shocks I know that the orignal 12 3/4's will have to be put back on. I thought about mounting a TX750 arm but the length is the same and since I don't run it hard I'd rather smooth it out some. Not only that, the newer arm will allow me to use the easier to aquire chain guard. I just purchased a TX750 rim and hub tonite so I can improve the braking some as well. This boney old butt is ready for a nice cushy ride.
