when i kick the bike over every so often it will kickback at me hard. What would cause this and what is the cure for it?

Loose springs maybe.........stuck ATU maybe...could be advanced..........advanced timing.......my 77 I had I ran it 1/8" or even a bit more retarded from the F mark at 1200.....

newelly, xs john is probably right. These don't usually kick back unless the timing is way advanced. They are notorious for that advance timing unit to stick in the full advance position. Usually a good cleaning & lube is all that's needed, some time's the spring's are streached beyond repair, so Mike's has replacement's.,,,Gordo
