Wanting to sync my carbs on a 81 xs650sh. Was hearing something about checking the sync with one dead cylinder. Can anybody inform me on this deal? Want to learn to do things right, or why do it.....right!!

cosack; Check in your repair manual, there is a section on tuning in the carb chapter. It will be explained there. If not someone in here can help. I believe there was a recent post on it in the fuel section of this forum under the "raw fuel leaking from breather" post by TeeCat.

The 81's have the vaccum barbs in the carb holders don't they? The home made manometer works very well to sync the carbs.

Thanks for the info guys! I guess I should read the posts better in a specific area to get some answers. Really appreciate your responses though! THANKS again.

I always used the dead cylinder method when tuning my British parallel twins with good results and now I do it on my 650. I adjust the mixture screws on each cylinder for maximum RPM at idle, then sync at idle using gauges and idle speed screws then at about 2000 rpm with tension on the cables, this will be different than the idle setting.
