Im getting to that point where im putting the bike back together and cleaning up the engine. I think i wanna paint some of the engine but i was wondering if i could just tape off areas or i had disassemble the engine and paint.

Any tips on what and where to tape besides the obvious would help as well. thanks.

Masking tape and newspaper or platic bags work great. It can be done on the bike but if you have it off or are planning to remove it that will make it a whole lot easier. Duplicolor hi-temp engine paint works real good, I used it on my rider two years ago and still no chips or gasoline damage, and it's easy to clean as well.

Here's some pics of when I painted one for a restoration last month.

all i painted was the jugs and i used stove paint. looks fantastic and i have no doubt it will hold up just fine. if it needs freshening later it will be a piece of cake, easiest part of my project.

Stove paint will work ok on the engine but don't use it on the pipes, it won't take the heat.
