Hello everyone

I have a 1971 650xs1b and the key switch for it is screwed. I have tried to get a new switch for it but it is impossible to find. I have decided to put a toggle switch on it instead but I am not to good at wiring. Can anyone tell me how the wires should go if I use a two prong toggle switch. Please help!!

Thanks

red to brown, and red/yellow is key first posistion - red to brown, and red/yellow, and blue is second key posistion (parking)

Thanks for the reply but I am a bit confused. If i have a toggle switch that has only two prongs how should the wires go? The toggle switch only has ON and OFF. what wires would go on prong 1 and what wires would go on prong 2

Thanks again for all your help

Red by itself on one terminal. Brown and red/yellow on the other. If you want the the parking light feature you will need a double throw switch. Red on the common, brown and red yellow on one side and blue alone on the other.

See Jayel's gallery, there is a color wiring diagram there.

Couldn't you just buy an ignition switch for a newer bike - and mount it to the side? This way you would still have the security feature.

Use and ohm meter to find the common (center pole) for red/white - and use the prong 1 for igniton, and prong 2 for parking lights?

Thanks for the reply guys,

I think I am still going to go for the toggle switch method. On the 71 xs6501b there is not a lot of room to be mounting a switch on the side of it. With the toggle switch I am going to hide it on the headlight pot. I am also going to leave the key switch that is screwed on the the bike to give the illusion of a key switch.

Thanks again for everyones help and I will post a couple of pics of the bike soon so you guys can see it.
