Hi, I'm fitting a Bosch re55 regulator(can't get the vr291).Please someone tell me if I have all this correct. The case is ground/neg, terminal R+ is a positive feed from ign etc and RF is the field green wire.
Also I'm using the part of the original loom that comes from the alternator (originally points setup) 3 white (rectifier) 1blue( neutral switch) 1green (field on regulator) 1 yellow (safety relay) and 1 black. It's this black wire that has me a little concerned. I assume that with a black wired regulator that they plug together. Mine is grounded to frame. Can I ignore this wire, or do I need to ground it? Thanks

I just googled Bosch RE55 and read this:
www.mypage.tsn.cc/rdd/...arging.htm
They say that the terminals are D+ and DF. Sounds like its a 2 terminal device, with the case being the ground connection.
D+ would be connected to power that comes from the Ignition Switch. You only want power when the ignition switch is on.
DF would be the feed to the green wire in the harness. It is suppling the power to one brush (outer brush) to control the field current.
The black wire coming from the alternator should be connected to the common black grounding wire in the harness, or to bare metal on the frame (not the battery box which is rubber mounted.) Actually it would likely still work without the black wire connected, because the inner brush is grounded to the alternator frame. Always good to have lots of grounds.

Thanks RG, that's how I thought it would be. Just checking, I didn't want to make a blue and fry something.

Isn't the bosch unit rather costly? The Chrysler reg I'm using was $15 At Advanved Auto.

Hi Xsleo, Yeah it's more expensive than what you yanks have to pay for all your stuff. The regulators for American cars are just not available where I live. The Bosh re55 cost me AU$35.00. I was quoted up to AU$45.00. And here even the wreckers are not a good deal on small parts because of all the police paperwork they have to do.

Ok then as long as it works. I guess if i read where you were are it makes more sense. It seems you guys on that side of the pond do pay more for some stuff.
