I must have spoken to about 30 maybe 40 people all with xs's not one of them has experienced an oil leak, yet both my xs's have an uncurable leak.
Brand new copper washes all over the engine
Every oil seal replaced
Every gasket replaced
The engine has been torque'd correctly
The engine is solid yet guess what, oil leak!
from around the clutch pushrod aswell
Brand new seal, the bushing inside seemed to be fine so i never replaced it, Just typical how only mine ever experience a leak and no matter what you do it persists to be a pain in the ass

it appears that it is not leaking from where i originally said but instead its leaking from from where the 2 crankcases meet, behind the left hand side engine casing. the very edge just drips constantly, now matter how tight i tighten the casings

I can't see a thing in that video clip. Maybe if you used some spray cleaner to hose all that goop off the thing. . . .

Its my understanding that upper and lower cases are machined together at the factory (and then stamped with matching numbers). They are therefore a matching set and seals fit correctly for no leaks. If someone has re-built the engine using case halves from different engines, then the machining where shafts exit the case will not be matched, and leaks may occur.
The head and rocker covers are also a matching set.

I have the VERY same thing and it is my last remaining dribble... driving me nuts. My motor seems to have matching parts (though I don't know how I'd verify that - I thought there was only one number on the case), and I recently installed a Mike's reed-type breather valve in the hope that my leak may be the result of excessive crankcase pressure. I have not had a chance to test the theory by riding yet, but consider the possibility that crankcase pressure may be a factor. I hope I'm right, as this fix has been reported to work for other people.

TeeCat;
Here's a picture that shows the matching numbers. Its under the clutch, so a little work to get to them.
