I went to look at an 81 special I might trade my rebel for and the bike was in decent running condition, minus the fact that it popped while at idle. Is there an easy way to fix this or is it a problem I should avoid altogether?

These bike's carb's, esp. the bs34(what your's has) get very dirty from sitting around with gas going bad. Esp. the idle circut(pilot circut). Now I would say it is worth taking a chance on IF the rest is in fair shape, carb rebuilding/ repair is not very hard to do, if by chance you feel that is above your skill's, over at the 650 garage there is a carb chart that walk's you through All the proceedure's for All the carb's.Also, do one at a time, for referance. And we're alway's here to answer your question's. Good luck, Gordo

I'd run some Sea-Foam the first couple tanks (cleans jets / varnish) it's like a injector cleaner if you can't find it, but any good auto supply will have it or something similar

Before you take a 100 mile trip, you should have a good look at the fuse panel. They are quite often falling apart and will leave you stranded on the side of the road. You want to have some spare fuses with you.
