So I just got from an ebay purchase an old 82 xs 650 heritage spoked wheel. At looking at it I realize that it has too many spokes, at least for the look I want. My rear wheel i bought, (not really sure which year) doesn't seem to match. So I googled around and looked at pictures and realized the heritage special has more spokes up front then earlier bikes.
y spokes are already pretty rusted, so I was wondering is there a way to relace this wheel with less spokes? Could I just buy the 36 piece set from mikes and use that instead of the 64 piece??

Incidentally does anyone have an older model spoked wheel and is looking for a heritage special wheel? Laughing

Wouldn't all the extra spoke holes still be there in the hub and the rim?

I just looked at the wheel and realized that it's completely different, you need that shouldered alloy wheel. Maybe you could buy a rim and spokes and lace it using the hub, leaving a few extra holes??

I wouldn't try using the Heritage rim or hub with less spokes or the heritage hub with less spokes laced to the mud catchers rim.......Unless an expert who has successfully done it and used it many times recommends doing it.................just doesn't seem right.................or look right
