So out on a ride yesterday my turn signals stopped working. Then the bike started acting funny. Turns out I'm not charging, but got no tail light failure. Thought I had a bad connection, but after checking everything, my rotor ohms out at 1.2 ohms. Everywhere I've read says at least 5.

So out of curiosity, I put a battery on the rotor, and well I had a pretty strong pull on a pair of pliers. Do I have a shorted winding in my rotor or am I seeing something wrong?

When you measure from slip ring to slip ring did you have one brush removed?

Remove both carbon brushes then set your multimeter to Ohms, ( Ω )

200 i think is the best setting depending what your metre has, Anyway set to Ω

and put your two probes to the slip rings,

1 to each individual ring,

see what reading you get if its lower than 5 Ω then its quango'd and its time for a new one,

When you pull the brushes check the lengths of them first make sure than they are within tolerance, if they are genuine Yam then they should have a wear line, if they have gone further than the line then they are shot aswell.

yeah, I actually pulled the rotor and measured it on the bench. 1.2 ohms. But it is still trying to charge a little bit. I get 12.2 at idle, 12.6 at 2K. Guess I'm gonna have to cough up more $$$ for this money pit. Maybe time to upgrade to perminate magnets.

Rode mine for a while with that reading, trickle charger, glass mat bat and 40 mile round trips. Turn signals were iffy at times. A new rotor makes a world of differance.
oney pit? Keep it under 2 grand and you're still ahead of the game, Ha!( under 15 hundred is still better)
