Can someone explain the hardware related to the centerstand. I bought this bike in parts or would have a better idea. I need to know what keeps the centerstand in the up position other then the big spring. I have the stand mounted on the bike and the big spring in place but there is something else that must keep the centerstand in position once the bike is pushed off the centerstand from flopping around. Does it wedge against the muffler by way of a rubber bumper?

You got it! Actually, the mounting bracket for the muffler.

I love this site. I posted my question and walked the kid 1 block to school and had 2 responses when I got back. Thanks for the info. OK, there is lots of folks who change the mufflers from stock on these bikes. Do aftermarket mufflers usually have a similiar set-up so that the centerstand has a place to rest against? Do you have a picture of this mounting bracket it rest against? With the spring only in place, the springs just flops off every time I roll the bike off the stand. I already have the greaseable piviot bolts from Mikes.

Hey 5twins, that's another great mod to do on my bike. Bike is heavy, so anything that helps the centre stand work freely is a bonus.

Right now all I only have the header pipes running down each side of the bike. The centerstand has nothing to lay against in the up position right now. I was just trying to learn what or where its final resting place is when in the up position and what it lays against.

The centre stand normally hits against a rubber stop that is on a bracket on the bottom of the muffler (for a 78SE). On some years it may have a stop on the frame.
If your bike is not stock, then you'll have to improvise a stop.

Mike's has a replacement bracket to use on the header exhaust. It is under the exhaust section.

I am going to be using aftermarket mufflers from Mikes. I have looked through his exhaust section and don't see the bracket you mentioned. All I see he offers is the stock rubber bumper that slips on the stock muffler. Do you have the part #?
