the VIN on the frame neck should start 4N9-****** (Standard H) or 4M4-****** (Special SH) and it is the VIN..... motor number is on front of the engine cases under front motor mount

The number on the frame and motor are the same but it needs to be 17 digits long. The sticker on the frame is gone.

that 17 digit Vin started in 81, early models for that year may not of had the 17 digit number, do a google search on "17 digit vin numbers" and read all about it, this comes up every so often

My 75 is only 9 digits and the DMV didn't question it. What number is on your paperwork ? The DMV should except what is on the current paperwork.

The guy at the Yamaha dealer remarked to me last week that my bike was so old it didn't have a 17 digit VIN.
