Guys,
How many miles between changes you doing?
y Morrises V-Twin was awesome to start with, cooler quieter..great..
But I gotta feeling that it dont last very long, I am already getting signs of it going off...
ainly notchy gearbox and other slight grumbles on an otherwise perfect machine..notchy box being the very worst of it. Sometimes its OK..but a lot of times the downward change is not good..
Any tips on ideal methods for getting the right clutch adjustment procedure would also be gratefully received. Although this maybe part of it, its always been setup like this.
Also where do you setup your bite points?

If you are speaking of the XS shifting...........my shift drum detent spring broke last year and all I had handy was a bit lighter spring...(the spring in the right side cover that pulls the detent wheel over the pins is a hog).....stuck the lighter spring in there and I did notice it shifted quite a bit easier........since all the gears except first have beveled dogs that clench each other together I couldn't see why I shouldn't just leave the lighter spring in there and did..........beveled my first gear to pull toghther anyway when I changed tranmissions last year ........pretty slick....just lift a toe and go......
Had already shortened just slightly the spring in the neutral detent spring........(2 washers will do that) the detent near the oil fill hole.....
Diviting the long clutch rod and the rod in the push lever assembly sure made a difference in my clutch......and it should save the seal from the rod wandering when it has a load on it from grabbing the clutch......class over.....
Shifts like a modern bike now........

1000 miles or about 1600 kms seems to be what most guys are using between oil changes. The oil has a harder life that in cars, running at higher temperature and being beat up by the tranny gears.
For the clutch, I turn the worm gear screw in until it touches, back out 1/8 turn and lock the locknut. Adjust the free play at the lever for 1/16" . As you are out riding, the free play at the lever will increase considerably. Re-adjust the free play back to the original amount of free-play. My clutch works perfect, and can find neutral anytime.

Yeah OK guys. Thats what I am seeing here.
The oil has gone off ... The problem is downward shifting, it sticks up and need reclutching to release the gear. My other bikes always did this when the oil was crap.
Gonna try xs1961's tip this time round..
Cheers for the info John. All filed away

No, down the entire box. Actually if anything the lower ones are better.
xs1961's tip, and indeed Tony Hall of Halco's tip was to use Slick50 for notchy boxes.

Rub it in! I'm still looking for my neutral and maybe someday I'll find it! Actually it's getting a little better it only takes me a minute or two now.
