|
So I took apart the second carb today and realized that one of my carbs must be missing a part. BS 38's off a 1972 XS2. When you look at the bottom of the carb without the float bowl on, the carb with the choke has a small tube protruding and it matches up with a hole in the float bowl.
The carb without the choke has the same hole in the float bowl, but no tube. To my knowledge the bike ran fine the two years i rode it before I let it sit, and I am positive I did not break this off in the removal of the bowl.
So is this just something special to the carb with the choke or am I missing parts?
P.S. I still cant get that main nozzle to free up so I can remove it to clean and replace o-ring, and I'm running out of ideas...any help?

The tube that protrudes down is the choke fuel supply tube. The carb with the choke needs the tube, and the carb without a choke does not need the tube. I believe I heard that the early year carbs only had a choke on one carb, so I guess that story was true.

RG you rock...I thought all was lost. The tube labled "choke tube with 2 small holes" is the one I was wondering about. So...any ideas about how to get the main nozzle that protrudes from the center of the carb loose without destroying it? I think I read one poster used a brass punch, and I"m about to do that tomorrow unless I am told otherwise.

I've not had them stuck like that. Maybe just keep putting penetrating oil on it and give it time to work.

On those needle jets the longer shank is pressed into the short neck opening and grabbing it will destroy it........a small wood dowel rod from the throat and it should tap out........

Two taps of the wooden dowel and out it came....and the project continues!
