74 and later Standard and Special tanks are interchangable

Piece of cake, screamer. It's a nice swap. I try to get them (standard tanks) whenever I can and put em on Specials along with Standard bars. You'll like having that bit of extra fuel along. I watch for 75, 6 & 7's myself. One of the main reasons I learned to use MSR - Milk Stone Remover to de-rust tanks. Best, Blue

What other tanks have y'all used on the XS? I've got an 81 XS650, just repainted the orig tank over the winter. However, I'd like to put a tank on that has a larger capacity. I'm looking to move the bike towards a bobber look....suggestions?

figured i'd give this thread a bump since i'm after the same thing as zimme, i'd really like to get a 5 gallon tank on there. Any other Yamaha Model tanks mount up without too much rigging?

Anyone? Figured I'd give it another bump as well, as I'd really like to get a bigger tank for my 81 with a left hand side petcock. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions? | only idea i had was getting a tank of an XS1100 or XS850 cutting the tunnel out of the stock 650 tank and then welding it into the 850 or 1100 tank, both of those tanks hold nearly 6 gallons. Doesn't seem like too many people want to carry more fuel. I'd really like to have a 4-5 gallon tank.

My 75 tank holds 4 gallons. At 50 plus mpg thats 200 on a tank. more than most people will ride between fillups .
