Cafe seat options for 79 xs650 Special.

I just picked up a 79 xs650 Special and I'm wondering if there are any cafe seats available.

I found this seat, but I don't have the stock seat to measure so I can't compare.

Do you guys know of any cafe seats that will fit my bike?

I know that seat does not line up to a 71-73 frame. Not sure if it will work on a special, but I believe they say it won't. They make a universal seat labeled as their cb500/550 seat, that is the same shape, but without the hinge points. Might be a better option for you should the measurements line up to your frame width, etc. Otherwise, I chose a Manx style seat available from Clubman Racing.com

Another option , modify stock seat , Like Mine

cut pan, to fit with 750 tank

Had the foam cut and added , and then recovered

So you just made it with fiberglass and covered it with fabric?

Stock bed pan, on hinges, cut front to fit 750 tank

It is built up foam , done by a local shop and then covered with black natman w/ basketweave insert on seating area

Better then Corbin,,, took a couple mock ups amd visits

but the results are worth it

It looks bloody great matey.. Ive got a couple of spare seatpans here (one a fiberglass replica) so Ill get the saw out at the weekend ! Cheers

Also do you know what 'grade' foam was used.. I Presume its not the soggy 'sofa' type ?

quite Stiff foam for the bum stop

Added to existing foam,, seating area is stock foam

I am building my own seat pan now. All out of wood. I wish I could use metal but I have no way to work with it. I'll post pics when I am done. It is going to be awesome.

Pablohoney - Any updates on your wooden seatbase? Im like you no access to metalworking tools but carpentry is part of my buisness so I used to knock-up lots of wood seats years ago..
Im using a GRP base made from a mould of a standard seat but reckon I'll need another... Rolling Eyes

the seat was going pretty well, but my bike is the total dumps right now, after failing to put it back together right, so now it must be totally rebuilt again, the point is that I don't even what to look at that bike anymore Confused

so I have not worked on the seat in a while.
