i am wondering what peoples experience has been. is one better than the other? i see a kit on 650central and one on mikesxs.

on the other hand is it just as well to use the stock mesh? i think not though. Wink

I have the one from mikesxs. No modifications required, so could easily go back to stock strainer in the future, if someone wanted to. It has a good look to it, and filter is easily changed.

The stock strainer is probably acceptable, but I like the idea of having a real oil filter.

For what it is worth I bought and have been using the 650 central kit. It takes spin on filters that were used on many different bike during the late 80's and 90's. I am happy with it and have no regrets. I like the fact that it is an actual disposable filter. The filter is large enough that I would like to believe that it acts as an oil cooler Very Happy

I have modded my sump plate for a spin on filter. This replaces the internal sump plate filter.
I have modded a right side engine cover to plumb in an external spin on filter and oil cooler.
This will increase the oil capacity by a quart or so as well as better filtering. Not to mention how much cooler the oil will be.
I plan on using a thermostatically controlled valve to control the oil flow to the cooler. It will open up when the oil gets to 180 degrees. like the thermostat in a car engine cntrols the water flow in tn radiator.
