Hi, was wondering if anyone knows how to get the field coils out of the stator housing so that I can bead blast it? I can't find any screws, though there are a couple of holes that look like they may have a screw from the inside, but I can't find the heads.

Well... I was just sitting here going thru the unanswered posts... and lucky us! I just happened to have a bad stator in my junk drawer... so I figured, what the heck...

It seems the two 'screw' holes you see are not screws, but retaining/locating pins. I tried drilling them out but the drill bit kept walking off them onto the softer aluminum housing... well I had nothing to loose here so I kept on... widened and egged out the holes and managed to snap the pins off and then tap the coil out with a brass punch.

So it would seem the trick is to clamp the stator in the drill press and drill the pins straight and true... then the coils will come out.

Really not sure if it's worth the risk of screwing up the housing though... but at least now we know how to do it!

Thanks for the info Chris. I was afraid that's how it was. I guess I'll have to clean it up with a wire brush.
