Is oil leaking out the breather tubes "normal" on these bikes? I know a lot of older bikes just like to mark their territory.

A little is normal - I have heard that too much oil in the engine can cause it to worsen. Because of this - I have pulled my breather tube off of the stock carb box and put a seperate car brather filter on it - to keep the oil out of the carbs (it richens the mixture).
Also plug up the carb box breather inlets - so unfiltered air doesn't enter carbs.
