The baffel on my 80 is up the end 6-8 inches.........one was drilled when I got it 10 years ago....don't know why.....hole was 7/16" ........did the other side the same with a loing drill to balance it out.........still sounds low but I could tell if I had removed the whole thing or made the hole bigger it wouldn't have pleased me.........

I just drilled about 30 holes into my baffles,I want a little more sound coming out of my pipes. I watched a vid of an old BSA start up and ride away,I am looking for that sound.

Better off with no baffles at all fit some aftermarket silencers/mufflers youll never look back - apart from when you want to see the smiling faces of the biker-friendly pedestrians !

I found that I needed some baffles on my 72 model when I bought a 2 into 1 collector from JC Whitney in the ninties. Sounded great, but fell on its face off idle. Even when I added some big washers into the collector to try to give it some back pressure, it still wouldn't run right, and I like to keep stuff basically stock so its easier to maintain. I took the shorty mufflers off my Panhead pipes sitting in the corner, put them on, really liked that sound. I have slash cuts on my 78 also from a harley. Since I don't have a lot of money, I try to use what I have and paint over bad chrome if it needs it. Barbeque black rust-o-leum will make many things look better.

Yeah, it does sound good, ya old fart! Ha!
y '83 came with 2 into 1's. They sounded good but I like the 2 into 2 look so I got a set of stock pipes. Bike ran so much better with the stockers on.
So where does one go for the sound but keep the performance without dicking with the carbs?
Signed,
Ol' fart too. Ha!

I'm running stock jetting with a set of XSjohn needles, mikes stock airfilters for my year it sounds better in person than on camera, a little deeper tone, and out on the highway it really has a nice ripping sound when it's pulling some R's
