disclaimer...newbie question.
my tank has dual petcocks, but the on/off/reserve levers for both face the same way. so, when setting on the seat i can flip the lever on the left side easily, but the petcock on the right side the lever is facing towards the motor rather than away from the motor. so, i have to reach up under the tank to turn the lever. is this correct or has someone stuck a petcock meant for the left side on the right side of my tank?

Welcome to the board. I think you'll be pleased with the quality and quantity of help available here from the faves and regs. Lots of good information and support here. About your petcock question...........my '73 TX 650 is as follows: The "Reserve" position is to the front of the petcock on the right side and just the opposite on the left. Both levers are easily accessible from the outside of the tank - away from the entine - no need to reach beneath the tank in stock configuration............. Don't know what might have happened with your scooter but don't think it was intended to function that way.........Wes

Unbolt it from the tank and turn it around.

might point the fuel outlet the other way but better than having the lever to the inside

levers should both be on the outside, gas exits towards the carbs, but yes the levers will point in opposite directions when set to off or reserve. That's the way yamaha made it.

I think flipping it around would make the two inlet pipes inside the tank face different directions...meaning one would run out of gas before the other. You could run them both on researve I suppose and get around that...long as you remember to fill up regularly!
ikes sells them for $39 a side, but is out of stock. I have a pair I bought from him last year for my TX tank, that I only ran a short while. Would sell you those with the bolts and washers for the same $80 shipped if you were interested in them...

Mn_tx, thanks for the offer! I'll keep that in mind if I decide to order some new ones. The guy I bought the bike from has a handful of old xs parts bikes so I may try to salvage from him first.
