lower side covers

i'm hoping to add lower side covers to an 80sg.figured i'd need to weld brackets to frame-some info from here or 650 garage seemed to indicate that one mount on rt side was already on the "chain lock box" that seems to go under the battery box on rt side-no room there on an 80, is the set up that different on 82/83?? anybody got a picture of this w/ side cover(s) off? wood-z

I think the chain lock box was from heritage models with rear drums. It seems to mount where the rear master cylynder is mounted and wont mount to bikes with rear disks..

My 1981 Special has the lock box...I think that 81 may have been the first year it was used.

danno does your 81 have rear disc or drum.

All XS650s from 1981 on were equipped with a drum rear brake. BTW,where are you located in NY? I am near Syracuse.
