I use Berryman Chem-Dip carb cleaner. It comes in a 1 gal can with a metal parts basket. This is very strong stuff that will clean every bit of crusty gunk out of your carbs without hurting the aluminum. It will however swell up rubber so you must remove rubber parts, "o"rings etc. I think I bought it at Napa or similar auto parts place.............BG

Simple Green works very well and won't eat up the rubber bits.

I have always used it straight. It comes in a big jug as well as the spray bottles and quite cheap that way.
I have heard that it might be corrosive to alloy, but I have never left it soaking long enough to have any issues, maybe if you left it a month! Basically leave one carb soaking while disassembling the other, 1/2 an hour or so then wash with soap & water. Does a nice job of cleaning the bodies and linkages without disassembly. The slides were seized solid in my carbs and it worked well to free them.
Since it not petro based, it smells okay. You can use it in the house (open the window!!). The product itself is biodgradable and can go down the drain, although shouldn't if it is full of grunge.

Also nice for cleaning nasty greasy bits, bottom of engine and between cooling fins... spray it on, leave for 10 minutes, spray it again, leave it again and then wash with soap!!!

Oh, and my kids save their old toothbrushes for me, perfect for scrubbing out little spaces.
