|
I purchased a 79' 2F-XS650 that possessed only a partial wiring harness.
I have the carbs rebuilt, everything painted, new chain, etc. However, I cannot figure out a couple of (very essential) wiring problems. How do I connect the ignition coils (each with one male Brown connector and one Orange female connector) to the condensor Black male connectors and the wires coming from the contact breakers? I have a Haynes manual which is essentially useless when it comes to the wiring diagrams. Is there somewhere I can find a diagram showing a simplified way to attach the coils, condensors and contact breakers?
I know this is a bit of a convoluted question but any response would be greatly appreciated.

There should be four wires coming out of the harness in that area.
I believe the coil leads go in the 2 "single" connectors.
As for the 2 wires with the dual female bullet connectors, one condensor lead and 1 breaker lead in each.

Exceptional:
Only one more question.....are the condensor wires the two comming out from the top of the head. The wires seem to be covered with some type of "braided" insulation? I assume these must be the two condensors wire?

yup yup....the condensor is actually bolted to the backside of one of the top engine mounts. (Little cylinder about an inch and a half long)

Thanks for all your help folks. Got the XS650 crankin' late last night. Now all I gotta do is put on the new chain. (Man ain't that a tiny rear sprocket?)
Is there a functional reason for such a small rear sprocket, i.e. more low/top end torque?

I think stock is 17Tooth front and 34Tooth back. Whatcha got? Smaller rear (less tooth, say a 32) would give you less torque, higher top end.
