I just finished installing Pamco ignition system on my '72 XS2. Absolutly the best thing I have done so far. It is VERY easy to install. I had to email Pete about one question on my wiring and he promptly responded. The bike kick starts with one kick now. Did I mention the bike has been dead for 30 years! If you are trying to decide whether or not to buy one I say GO FOR IT! Great job Pete!

The PAMCO ignition system for XS650's:

The system is about as simple as it gets. The points plate is replaced with a Printed Circuit board (PC Board) mounted on a replacement for the points plate.

The points cam is replaced with a rotor and four magnets:

Here is the completed installation:

There is no external "box of tricks". All of the circuitry is on the PC board. The plate and rotor are precision made in a CNC machine from high quality alluminum.

Installation is simple. After mounting the plate and rotor, the upper hold down screw is located at the mid point of the slot. This will get the timing close enough to start the engine. Timing is then set more accurately with a timing light by loosening the hold down screws and moving the plate right or left until the timing marks are in the "F" zone.

You can use any dual output coil with a 2 to 3 Ohm primary resistance, such as MikesXS #17-6803. The coil can be mounted very simply using two ground clamps, available at Home Depot:

Go to Home Depot and buy 2 Ground Clamps (1/2 - 3/4 - 1") #051411160104 @ $1.46 ea.

The coil is attached to the clamps and then the clamps are clamped to the cross bar:

Wiring is also simple. There is no external "box of tricks" to worry about. Just a three wire setup. Black wire to ground, red wire to the red / white wire from the kill switch, which is also connected to the positive terminal on the coil, and finally, connect the green wire to the negative terminal on the coil.

Available from www.mikesxs.net/products-27.html

ike offers a special kit that includes the coil, wires and plug caps for a great saving on cost, and FREE shipping!

Very cool.
I may need to break down and purchase one!
looks to be an easy install.

y one question is. how the circuit board will or would hold up under a older motor that vibrates quite abit?

Well, the circuit board is made of fibreglass and is very small, about the size of a large postage stamp, so engine vibration will not affect it. The system does come with a one year warranty.
