So, I offered this guy $600. He wrote me back $700 and its mine. Who thinks it's worth it, who thinks I'm pissing money away? If it really does that a fresh rebuild, properly done, I can't see how it wouldnt be.

Yeah thats what kind of concerned me. I was figuring if there much wrong with it, I'm assuming I'd be getting at least that much in parts back out of it.

If ya dont take the chance you will never know..........If ya buy it and it turns out to be not as he claims you can always re sell it for say $600 so you will be out $100 bucks. If ya dont do it you will always wonder if you passed up a deal...........BG

I had seen that one. He wants to buy a street bike but aren't our old XSs street bikes? Maybe he wants something newer..I would buy it if I were in the market and it was good enough in person. I looked at one that ran but was REALLY rough cosmetically here a few months ago for $600.

I ran across a site called craigshelper.com that searches craigslist across a wide area within whatever preferences you tell it to. Works pretty slick. Its a timesaver.

Well money is a little tight right now, but I think I can scrape that up. Maybe I'll get it and hold on to it. depending on the condition I'll pass it along to someone else if interested. But knowing me once it's in my garage I won't want to let go of it. I'm thinking his idea of a 'street bike" is a crotch rocket.

Check if the cam chain and guide was replaced................ add up how much it has cost the guy to get it where it is at and cost that against what your paying for it.................Check receits............ and ask why he thinks the electrics need some more work.................4th oversize, not to many rebuilds left on those bores, Mikes 6th oversize and a 700 kit..............A couple of months ago this guy joined up and tried to get rid of the bike through here, said the landlord had told him to get rid of the bike as the parking lot was not to be used as a workshop

yeah the 4th over concerned me. Can it go anymore without replacing the sleeve? cause those are kind of pricy. I'm not too worried about any electrical problems, unless what he thinks are electrical problems are something different. Maybe I'll just go take it for a spin this weekend and see what what kind of feeling I really get from her. On that same note. Even if the bike isnt in good condition, is there any parts off it anyone would want, that maybe a couple people together might need to come together for $700?

yea they can, check out Mikes 6th over size 680cc pistons and i have seen 702cc kits for sale on eBay i think they are wisco. I think the bores would be getting a bit thin on the 702cc but people do it so!

Look at it this way, if the work has been done and the engine lasts another 40-50klm, then the 6th oversize is another 40-50klm, then a good second hand set of barrels are cheep........still had 80-100klm on that engine........Thousand that is 50-60 thousand miles for you yanks Laughing

I think he's saying he just wants to sell it and get something that doesnt need work. That he's not allowed to work on anything where he rents.

All things being relative, 700's not a bad deal.
Got mine for 600 and had to do a top end rebuild, 2 over. 4 over ain't that much of a jump, could of had a scored cylinder. Bad electrics? Possibly a bad rotor. Take a multi meter with you and check it out. If it's bad maybe you could get it for less. Wish in one hand and spit in the other, wish I had seen it 2? years ago, only an hours drive as opposed to the 4 I had to go to get mine.
Love my '83.

well I think i'm gonna take it off his hands, assuming I can scrape up some cash. LOL its sitting in my checking account right now, but I think that mortgage needs paid first... then we'll see what my checking account looks like. That and it may be much better, or much much worse than I'm expecting. never know till I look at it. seams everyone else here thinks its probably worth it.
