Just got an 81 Special running ok on both cylinders. Popping a bit on left side.It just dawned on me that when I sucked and blew on the vacume pipe onto the petcock, air escaped from the petcock itself. I know there is a little breather hole on the assy itself, but is it large enough to be a noticable amount of air. The bike is 60 miles away so I cant check it tonight
but it's pestering me to know. The popping symptom is exactly like an air leak. Can't wait to check it tomorrow. The vacume pipes is new. Fuel is flowing fine,no fuel leaks.

If the vacuum petcock is working for you, then just keep using it. I don't care to use them, because they don't have an "off" position. I removed the ones that came on my bike, and replaced with manual petcocks. I know that when they're "off", there's no chance of fuel leaking down into the engine.
