This is a question from an inexperienced mechanic (me):

When I remove the sidecovers from my engine or my floatbowls from my carbs, do I need to replace the gaskets that sealed these parts? Use gasket sealer? Which one?

Thanks

If you do need to resort to gasket sealer then it is time to replace the gasket. Most of these bikes when you get them do seem to need new engine cover and sump filter gaskets along with new oil drain plug sealing washers. Best to figure on replacing all those eventually. Carb float bowl gaskets on the other hand, can last darn near forever if you don't damage or break them when removing the bowl.
