I'm thinking about a new bike. The choices are 2003-2004 Suzuki SV650 or a Honda Silverwing (Maxi scooter). I'm putting a few things under consideration, mainly if I can afford anything at all.

Two, the fun ride of the sv650 vs the convenient ride of the silver wing and the protection of the elements of the silver wing. I'm getting it to ride to work and I need something that is not a pain in the ass or I'll just get in the truck. The silver wing has a trunk for my lunch and helmet. The SV is a standard motorcycle setup that I'm used to, and I'm probably going to have to get some sort of luggage to take my lunch and possibly a laptop to work.

Recreationally the sv is going to be more fun to ride, but the silverwing might be a lot better for a long ride and my wife will surely like the passenger situation on the silverwing a lot better.

I guess I need to ride both of them.... but I'm definately leaning towards something w/gas @2.15/gal and the truck sucking down 14 m.p.g. Question

This is a hard call, for me it would be a matter of money. A new bike will cost and if you finance it well it adds up. My wife and I have a budget plan that includes no financed dept that does not build equity. The dept has to also meet a tax benefited profile (that’s another topic). In short if it does not increase in value after our budget profiles is applied then we don’t buy. That is the main reason I rider the xs650 I carry my laptop across my shoulder and my lunch in a back pack.

I will say that the Silver Wing is very cool, sporty and low with very good gas mileage.
