Hey Guys and Gals,
Just want some imput on your opinions of Paint vs Powder coat.I am pulling the motor out of my 78 Special to freshen up the top end and always said since I had the bike, that if I ever pulled the motor I would go all the way with a complete dissasembly and a fresh coat of paint.
Let the debate begin..........................

if you do it your self ,painting is easier. powder coating will need an oven large enough to bake the frame.

good cheap alternative (as long as you want a black frame) spray on bed liner, tough as nails.

i you can find a shop in town that will powdercoat for cheap (and make sure they do good work) then id say go with that. if you cant find an affordable powdercoating company in town (like here in Richmond, VA). then powdercoat most of the bike yourself. get a cheap oven from craigslist, and the harbor freight powdercoat kit. 70 bucks. ive had good results, but it does take a little practice, i got the powder from eastwood. and all in all, ive spent less than 100 bucks to do most of my powdercoating.
the spray bed liner sounds like a great idea. i may do that with my frame. because around here, like i said. there are no affordable powdercoat companies. 300+ to powdercoat my frame. damned highway robbery if you ask me.

i did it to my CB500/4, sand it, degrease. spray. Looks reaaaly good and it's nice and tough. make sure it's bedliner and not rubber rocker guard though.

POR-15 is the best option IMO. Its relatively cheap, easy to apply, and holds up to anything you can throw at it.

Consider that if you paint it with a rattle can, it can be easily touched up every time you scratch it or otherwise damage the paint. It is the cheapest option.

POR-15. I am using this on my frame and wheels. I love powdercoating as much as the next guy, but I live in fear of dinging it, or realizing I forgot to weld a little bracket on, after it is coated. POR-15 is 90% as hard, and can be touched up. Downside for me right now is, I need a warm place to spray the darn thing. Too toxic to spray in my garage , and only 6 degrees outside. I hate waiting. Kyle

harbor frieght flap discs and wire wheels to clean it up and smooth out welds, self etching primer, and brake caliper paint.
poweder coat will crack when nuts and bolts are tightened down on them and harder to touch up.
Just one opinion.
