YAHOO!
After 9 months of being in Japan for work and not being able to work on my bike, today it ran for the fist time in many years! Sounds sweet, header pipes with shorty turnouts and perforated baffles.
Bone stock ignition and carbs on a 1972 Yamaha... TX650?? XS2??
Just don't ask the guys at the dealership to check on parts. Lol
Been spending a lot of time lurking here and will get to posting some pictures of my “cheap as it gets chop job” when I find where I put the camera.
Things left to do:
Weld the tank bottom back together.
Weld the seat spring support in.
Weld in the support for the rear fender.
Attach the tail light.
Rebuild the front caliper.
Ride until my wife can't remember what I look like.
Hope to see some other 650's out and about soon.

dude, did you check out gravel crew or bratstyle while you were in japan? both shops chop xs650's as well as other metric bikes and they are sweet! you could have gotten some first hand insight!!

No I wasn't able to.
I was in Nagoya working 6 days a week and didn't get much free time.
I did run across a zero samurai style bike that just got built and was getting pics taken at the Osu temple...Found it and resized it for your pleasure.

Strange as it may be, I noticed that the Harley is thriving in Japan. There were nearly as many custom harley's running the streets as any other bike. I think most of them are stock motors as I didn't recall ever seeing an after market monster there.

There is tons of really sick choppers coming out of Japan right now. they really do have a kind of movement going over there. I'd like to go to Japan sometime in my life.
